2. The objectives of the project:
The project concerns mainly the use of renewable energy sources: sun, wind and water, according to European Directive 2001/77 / EU about the maximum use of renewable energy sources in all EU countries by 2010.
In the face of problems arising from the use of non-renewable energy sources, the goal of the project is to raise the students awareness of this issue and make them understand the need for collective action across the continent. We are aiming at students to become pioneers of environmental change and society through the exchange of experiences and ideas with other European peers.
The purpose of these actions will focus on reducing fuel consumption in the upcoming decades, minimizing their impact on the environment and reducing dependence on fossil fuels for global energy requirements.
Countries participating:
- Cyprus (students age 13-15 )
- Portugal (students age 16-19 )
- Italy (students age 17-19 )
- Poland (students age 16-19 )
- Greece (students age 13-15 )
The main topics of the project:
- environment (current situation)
- energy (renewable and nonrenewable energy sources)
- sun (solar energy use, making solar car, etc.)
- water (water shortages / pollution / conservation, construction of the device to produce water from atmospheric air)
- wind (the use of wind energy)

3. The objectives of Schools No.1 within the project:
- to acquaint students and local community with renewable energy and energy problems in the world
- to deepen the knowledge of partner countries, knowledge of chemistry, physics, technology, geography, ecology, environment, to practice English communication skills, information technology skills, etc.

The first meeting of the Comenius project: "The sun, wind and hydro: the future of mankind"
took place from 29.10.2009 to 02.11.2009 in ITIS Severi in Padova, Italy.
Conclusions after the first visit ?
The ability to communicate in English as well as the concern for natural environment are the two objectives through achievement of which we can feel equal partners among the European countries.
After the meting we managed to assemble a dictionary of environmental protection terms in the languages of partner countries and with the definitions in English . We also planned a method to gather research material and chose research tools to identify threats to the environment in the five partner countries.

Video conferencing (01/22/2010)
- Within the European project SUN, WIND AND HYDRO: THE FUTURE OF MANKIND partner schools from Poland, Cyprus, Greece, Portugal and Italy have carried out a survey in local communities for public awareness and sensitivity to environmental issues.
- The research specimen consisted of 100 students, 100 parents and 20 teachers of the schools No. 1 in Gorlice.
- Survey results and the drawn conclusions were shared with partner schools during a videoconference at the Commune Council Office in Lipinki on 22 January 2010.
Conclusions from the survey carried out in the local community of our school:
In order to become more environmentally friendly we should:
- often talk about the problems of the environment
- make long-term investments in renewable energy
- reduce energy consumption by turning off unused equipment and use less hot water
- reduce water consumption by installing water saving devices such as economical toilet flushing system
